The Director of WEH
Ruth Musunu Titi-Manyaka was born in a small village in the Belgian Congo. After graduating from high school she attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, and was graduated in 1969. She then earned her Masters Degree in Public Health from Loma Linda University. She married her husband, Raphael Titi, and returned to the Congo. Political unrest soon forced them to move to her husband's homeland, Cameroon. Ruth taught high school science for a number of years. This put her in direct contact with students and their families whose lives were being devastated by AIDS. Ruth responded by saying to herself, "I CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE." So then Ruth, with women who had the same vision, established Women, Environment, and Health.
Ruth and her husband are deeply committed Christians and excellent stewards of the gifts they have been given. One of thier acts of Christian stewardship has been to build a Christian Reformed church in Raphael's home village. They live in Douala, the commercial capitol of the country. Raphael, a metalurgical engineer, will soon retire from a career in mine management. Like Ruth, he contributes to the improvement of conditions in his country. He served as a consultant to Tony Blair on matters relating to government corruption in Africa.
